Ramotshere Moiloa welcomes the Netball World Cup Trophy

The month of June 2023 will find space in the history for the next generation. For the first time, Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality received the Netball World Cup Trophy which has been touring throughout the provinces. The trophy that was handed over to Ramotshere Moiloa by delegates from Moses Kotane Local Municipality was received by Mayor of Ramotshere Moiloa  Cllr Dina Pitso together with the Speaker of the municipality; Portia Letshufi and the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Mayor Khumalo Molefe.

With difficulty to hide her excitement from her face, upon welcoming the delegates and the trophy; in her opening remarks, the Speaker of Ramotshere Moiloa Municipality; Cllr Portia Letshufi said that the trophy could not have come at the better time in the area. We are in the youth month and the schools have been participating on winter games including the netball. We also hosted a successful tournament where netball was also played. As Ramotshere Moiloa we are fully behind the national team and give all the support. We wish our netball team the best of luck and are hopeful that the trophy will remain in our country. I will also like to appreciate and congratulate our national netball president; ‘Cecilia Molokoane’ for taking her time in ensuring that the hype and awareness around the world cup games next month is created through this trophy tour,” said Letshufi.

The shinning Netball South Africa President; Cecilia Molokwane could not hold her feelings of appreciation and excitement when she recognises how netball is supported in Ramotshere. With learners at home and some people on leave from work, local people; young and old came in large numbers to witness this first activity of its own kind in Ramotshere. “ I don’t know what to say about what we are witnessing now. The massive turnover that we see on the arrival of the trophy is heart-warming. This shows that the people of Ramotshere loves netball. Therefore, with the same breath, let us join our hands together and support our girls by watching the games together. We have adopted the Mmabana Lehurutshe to be one of the netball world cup viewing centre to sustain the hype around the netball world cup. I will also like to encourage local netball teams to be strong because it’s where the national players started. We also have one of our own; Kegomoditswe Keebine from this municipality who is in our team. So let us rally behind our local team so that the trophy must remain in our country.” Said Cecilia.

The energetic Local Mayor of Ramotshere Moiloa Dina Pitso was also excited to see the community welcoming the World Cup Trophy that has just touched the Ramotshere soil. ‘‘It is indeed an honour for us to have this opportunity to make history. During the mayoral cup tournament, I encouraged the netball players to take pride in what they do since there are opportunities in sports. Who knows that the very same ladies will one day join Kegomoditswe and represent us as well. Having this trophy tour will indeed motivate our youth to take sports seriously from school and will hopefully make a career out of it. Let us be glued to our television screens and go to Mmabana to watch the games as our way of supporting. Hash tag put your hands up for the netball trophy” said the mayor cheering the netball trophy.’”
