Mokgatlhe starts a new journey as Municipal Manager for Ramotshere Moiloa

The Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality council has resolved to appoint Mr Lekgetho Mokgatlhe as the new Municipal Manager. His appointment comes at the time when the municipality has begun the new financial year and preparing for the audit process of the year that ended in June 2023. The council is optimistic that he will steer the ship towards the right direction by adhering to the 30th August submission date for the Annual Financial Statements.

Mokgatlhe who holds a MSc in Sociology and other qualifications that include Municipal Finance and Governance from Wits and Potchfestroom (North West University); is not new to the North West Province as he was born in Dinokana village and also did his schooling in the same province. He has a vast experience in the Local Government sector since he began his career at the then Department of Local Government and Housing. He also worked for Land Affairs as a District Manager of Bophirima (now Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati) and further moved to different municipalities in the Free State Province where he worked in various fields within the municipal environment.

In 2001, he worked for Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality dealing with Municipal Planning and IDP, became the LED executive director at Lejweleputswa District Municipality from 2007 until 2010.

Still in the Free State, in 2013, he was appointed as the municipal manager of Nketoane Local Municipality until 2017 when the Free State Provincial Treasury appointed him as Director for Municipal Support and later as Chief Director Municipal Intervention. Through his hard work, dedication and commitment in what he was doing it did not take long for him to be seconded by Cogta through Section 154 to Dihlabeng Local Municipality as Acting Municipal Manager from 2019 until December 2021.

The Mayor of Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality, Dina Pitso welcomed the appointment of Mokgatlhe and introduced him to the management, union representatives and the entire municipal staff. During the engagements, she mentioned that the municipality has been operating with acting personnel and that the municipal manager came at the right time when the municipality has put plans in place to turn around its operations through the implementation of municipal financial recovery plan as well as adherence to the culture shift commitment in order to promote good governance and accelerate service delivery.

“Let us support and respect our new captain. I know that some people were operating on a pilot mode and it will be difficult to accept changes that he will bring. We know that we received a qualified audit opinion in 2022 and we need to work together as administration and council to ensure that we don’t regress but become an improved and a better municipality instead. Therefore; on behalf of the council, I would like to welcome our new accounting officer in our Municipality. We wish you good luck in your new responsibilities with the hope and belief that you will help us move towards a better audit opinion and better delivery of services to our community.”; said the mayor.

In his response, Mokgatlhe said that his vision is to see a progressive and developed Ramotshere Moiloa municipality that takes care of all community needs and its well-being. “I would like to thank the council for entrusting me with this role as well as the former acting Municipal Manager; Mr Mojapelo for holding the fort. As the son of the soil, I hope to plough back by working with staff members, councillors and community members to bring back the municipality to its glory. I will ensure that the staff is committed to serve the residents of Ramotshere Moiloa. Service delivery will remain a priority and cannot be compromised by selfish interests” he uttered.
